Dragon Quest XI: E3 Memories

Over 2 years ago, I played Dragon Quest XI for the first time at E3 2018..

Back when I used to go to E3 every year before the pandemic, the Square Enix booth was always one of the huge highlights as I would be able to play games like Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XV, and much more months before they would even come out.

On the first day of E3 2018, I only waited about 15 minutes in line to play Dragon Quest XI for the first time ever since I get in as Industry thanks to a friend. I was heavily anticipating DQXI since 2017 and was thrilled to finally play it months before it’s September 2018 release.

Playing DQXI for the first time!

The DQXI demo at E3 2018 had 2 playable sections: Cobblestone and the Horse Races in Gallopolis. I went with the Cobblestone part and it consisted of exploring Cobblestone and fighting some monsters. I remember being totally blown away so much by the game that I forgot that we only had about 15 minutes to play it.

After playing the game, we all got a free DQXI T-shirt which Square Enix also passed out at other conventions like Anime Expo and Otakon.

Going through my phone and finding these pictures brought me back to a pre-COVID time when I used to go to conventions and missing out on E3 this year totally bummed me out. Hopefully one day this entire COVID thing will blow over and we’ll be able to enjoy going to conventions again because I miss them so much. Let’s hope we can all go to conventions again, especially when the next big Dragon Quest game comes out!
